What is the starting salary for an apprenticeship?

The starting salary differs depending upon which scheme you undertake. For more information regarding salary and benefits, please refer our apprenticeship reward page here.

What qualifications do I need for an apprenticeship?

Most Sellafield Ltd apprenticeship schemes require at least a minimum of 3 GCSEs Grade C (New Structure: Grade 4) in Mathematics, English Language & one Science subject (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Science or similar) Or Equivalent. Schemes can also require other entry requirements/qualifications. I am not a school leaver, can I still apply for an apprenticeship?

There is no upper age limit when applying for an apprenticeship scheme.

How do I apply for an apprenticeship scheme?

Online applications for Sellafield Ltd apprenticeship and degree apprenticeship schemes will be available via the Gen2 website in late December/early January.

Warrington based Engineering Design Degree Apprenticeship applications will be advertised on the Sellafield Ltd Careers website.

Can I send my CV instead of applying online?

No, all applications must be directed through the Gen2 website.

Will the company support me to gain additional qualifications?

As part of your apprenticeship you will be working towards a level of qualification relevant to your role/scheme. What happens when I finish my apprenticeship at Sellafield Ltd?

On successful completion of your apprenticeship with Sellafield Ltd, we will look to move you into your permanent role, subject to business requirements.

When do you open and close for applications to the apprenticeship schemes?

Applications open via Gen2 website in December/January and close in early March for Sellafield Ltd schemes starting in September.

How long is the selection process?

March – April 2017: Aptitude testing and pre-assessment days.

April – May 2017: Interviews take place.

May – June 2017: Conditional offers are issued.

June – September 2017: On-boarding process.

September 2017: Start Date

How long is an apprenticeship at Sellafield Ltd?

The length of your scheme will vary dependent upon the apprenticeship you are completing. Typically it will be between 2 – 4 years. If I am successful when applying for an apprenticeship, when would I start?

The usual start date for apprenticeship schemes at Sellafield Ltd is early September.

It is preferable that you contact Gen2 from application through to interview stage.

When will I know where I will be based?

You could be based at any of the Sellafield Ltd locations around West Cumbria.

If you are applying for the Risley Design scheme, you will be based at Hinton House in Warrington or other associated work places.

Can I apply for more than one apprenticeship scheme?

Yes, as part of the application process through Gen2 you will be asked for your apprenticeship scheme preferences.

What happens once I have submitted my application?

Once you have completed your application via the Gen2 website your details will be reviewed, if successful you will be invited to complete an aptitude test. We then work together with Gen2 to invite successful candidates to interview.

If I am unsuccessful can I apply again next year?

Yes, you can apply again in the following years campaign.

Do Sellafield Ltd only recruit engineering apprentices?

No, we have a wide range of opportunities including business and project management alongside our craft and engineering schemes.
