• Typical Roles and Responsibilities

  Whether you are embarking on a career in project management, programme management or project controls, it is vital to understand all areas therefore, whilst on the scheme, you will have 6 monthly placements in all 3 professions. You will typically take the role of supporting the Project Manager, Programme Manager or Project Controls Manager; whilst working in these roles you’re given hands on responsibility and accountability for delivering work on challenging, live projects and programmes.

• Progression possibilities

  Within project management, programme management and project controls there are fantastic opportunities for career progression. The project management and programme management career pathways are well-defined and detail the steps you need to progress to the next stage in your career. Through hard work and commitment you could potentially become an industry-leading project or programme manager who is responsible for multi-million pound projects/programmes.

  Similarly, with Project Controls you will be aligned to a discipline (planning/cost engineering) to specialise in. As you progress through the dedicated project controls career pathway you can potentially become senior within that discipline, or progress to become a Project Controls Manager.

  The professions align to the Association for Project Management (APM) as the professional chartered body. All of our graduates also receive funding for professional membership.

  There are also a number of opportunities for further training and education across the project delivery professions through the Project Academy for Sellafield, both on the graduate scheme and beyond.

• Suitable degree disciplines

  Project and programme management is an exciting and challenging industry to work in where you will be responsible for working in multi-discipline teams to deliver projects and programmes safely, on schedule and to budget.

  We’re looking for graduates with a 2:1 (Hons) degree or above in any subject. Most importantly, we’re looking for candidates with the skills and behaviours to work in dynamic integrated project or programme teams. These include great organisational skills, logical thinking, attentive listener, proactive, confident and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders.

What inspired you to choose this scheme?

Project Management is a key capability that all organisations need. Sellafield works with a variety of large scale projects, and smaller unique projects, meaning that I could be exposed to a vast amounts of learning. They have a dedicated capability team that supports your growth throughout the scheme, and work closely with the APM Chartership body to ensure we receive the correct qualifications and experience required to become chartered PMs.

How did you find joining our graduate programme?

It is a very positive atmosphere to join alongside other Graduates. Everyone is very supportive and helps you along the way. The Graduate Council is a highlight – as a group of graduates who help support the scheme – they really make a difference to the social life of graduates in Cumbria.
