Job Description

Under the supervision of a Commissioning Operability Manager or Commissioning Operability Section Lead responsible for:
• Delivering commissioning tasks which require direct supervision of commissioning team members.
• Organisation, monitoring and development of the commissioning and O&M teams.
• Input into design and safety case.
• Input into project delivery logic and integrated programmes.
• Providing expertise in technical area.
• Authoring operational safety schedules and O&M documents.

Principal Accountabilities

• Reporting to the Commissioning Operability Manager providing support to Commissioning delivery.
• Supporting the MSC or sub committees when required as an SME.
• Advise Commissioning Operability Manager of work not meeting quality standards that may impact future functional performance or Sellafield Ltd safety standards.
• Undertaking nominated or key operational support roles on a given Project.
• Deliver Commissioning documentation activities through the generation and control of instructions including operator instructions, alarm response instructions, emergency operating instructions, and maintenance instructions etc.
• Supports delivery of disciplined operations and maintenance.
• Lead on Basic Cause Investigations.
• Lead practical problem solving as required and provide subject matter expertise, advice and guidance on specific plant issues.
• Lead and coach the team, set objectives, review and manage performance.
• Supports delivery of the PXP/Schedule build/Estimation of operability scope.
• Supervise the operability team to deliver the allocated work scope in accordance with the SLMS.
• Lead assurance activities (interface with internal and external regulators) through planning, monitoring, oversight and through production of routine reports.


Knowledge & Experience

• Coaching the commissioning team members to maximise their efficiency and effectiveness to deliver in a timely manner fit for purpose work in a safe manner to meet or better the project.
• Reporting commissioning progress accurately.
• Definition and implementation of the O&M arrangements required at project completion/active start.
• Ensuring that commissioning work is controlled in accordance with Engineering arrangements (Conduct of Engineering Manual) and that all Legal, Regulatory, Contractual and Governance obligations are met.
• Have an understanding of commissioning arrangements in compliance with Nuclear Site Licence Condition 21.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships and communications with key stakeholders.
• Effective at working within a team or leading package of work.
• Ensuring input to other project processes are incorporated, for example, design, HAZOP, risk, contract, estimating and knowledge management.
• Have a basic understanding of the Sellafield gated process.
• Good document/report writing skills.
• Understanding of commissioning deliverables; People, Plant and Procedures.


Essential Skills

• Hold or be able to achieve HNC or equivalent Level 4 qualification in relevant technical subject OR Incorporated Engineer status.
• Successful delivery of engineering, manufacturing, process or plant tasks and assignments.
• Expertise in relevant technical area.


Desirable Skills

• Accredited integrated BEng degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification.
• Chartered Engineer status.
