Working as part of the People Change team, the People Operations Consultant is responsible for providing a professional, generalist people operational service across the areas of formal people cases, delivery of small-scale people projects and supporting with large-scale people projects and initiatives.

The role holder will provide face to face support on categorised high risk/high profile formal people cases, o enable line managers to manage such cases through to resolution.

In addition, this role will form a flexible pool of operational people support to deliver defined small-scale people projects through to implementation, collaborating with senior leaders within the People function and the wider enterprise as needed. This will typically involve the deployment of business-related projects (including those related to cost / efficiency / headcount and TUPE) through to delivery.


Principle Accountabilities:

• Provide dedicated face to face support on categorised high risk/high profile formal people cases, to enable line managers to manage such cases through to resolution and to achieve the most positive outcome possible.
• Coach customers on Core People processes, instilling people management best practice in order to drive enhanced line manager capability.
• Provide support to and enable the delivery of the standard People Calendar activities e.g. People Boards and annual pay review.
• Delivery of defined small-scale people related projects and initiatives, working with the wider People function as needed, to ensure end to end delivery from design to implementation g. small- scale restructuring and TUPE initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with Senior People Consultants to support the delivery of transformation/change/People Strategy related projects and initiatives.
• Ensure quality assurance of projects by adherence to appropriate project governance, lifecycle frameworks and templates e.g. projects plans, RAID, stakeholder analysis, change analysis, communications.
• Influence effectively across the People Function to ensure that effective and timely people project solutions are developed to meet identified business needs.
• Completing/updating key documents used to monitor progress e.g. issues log and reporting mechanisms to support the delivery of project to plan timelines.
• Provide updates/data to inform key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics and service level agreements for projects and initiatives.
• Support with maintaining project dashboard for communication of status, risks and next steps.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships and communication with key stakeholders across both high risk/high profile formal people cases and projects to provide updates on progress and escalate risks, issues etc.
• Review opportunities, trends and areas of good practice/improvement and share as appropriate.
• Build and develop constructive Trade Union relationships, facilitating effective industrial relations within the customer.


Job Context and Challenges:

Sellafield Limited is a large industrial organisation with more than 10,000 employees carrying out a diverse of roles (mix of blue and white collar, from junior administrators, to internationally recognised technical experts) employed on a number of different sets of terms and conditions, each supported by a number of complex historic agreements.

As part of the transformation there are several work streams that are looking at changing how we work and how we ensure the People function is set up to effectively enable the business to deliver the People Strategy.


Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource or equivalent experience.
• Level 5 CIPD, or equivalent educational achievement (foundation degree/HND level) or a willingness to achieve this upon appointment.
• A broad level of professional HR related knowledge and experience as well as an understanding of the people systems and processes used within the organisation.
• Demonstrable experience of delivering people related projects/initiatives.
• Demonstrable and extensive knowledge of employment legislation.
•Demonstrable experience of business and people change management principles and implementation.
• The above stated requirements demonstrate the Company’s commitment to provide opportunities for candidates to further develop professional expertise. It is recognised however, that some internal candidates may not currently hold all the above qualifications and in such cases suitable relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal educational/professional qualifications.
