Job Description

To provide strategic leadership and direction for the safe, compliant and effective delivery of Engineering & Maintenance services across the Portfolio, including reliability engineering, plant engineering, maintenance, specialist equipment programmes, standards, assurance, optimisation, resourcing and continuous improvement. Accountable for the development and delivery of asset strategies that enable operational plants and projects to achieve business objectives safely, efficiently and cost effectively whilst meeting Company, Statutory, Regulatory, environmental permit and Site Licence requirements. Leads the integration and performance of Engineering & Maintenance functions, drives continuous improvement and operational excellence, and maintains governance and line management accountability.

Principal Accountabilities

• Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of engineering, maintenance, reliability and asset management strategies to support business objectives, site mission delivery and long-term asset performance.
• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of engineering, maintenance, reliability and specialist engineering services, ensuring safe, efficient and effective delivery that optimises asset performance, availability and business continuity.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering and maintenance performance through maintenance optimisation, enhanced self-delivery, effective resource utilisation, operational excellence and the implementation of innovative engineering solutions.
• Ensure compliance with Site Licence Conditions, regulatory requirements, environmental permits, legal obligations and company standards through effective governance, assurance, audit, investigation and corrective action arrangements.
• Lead the management of engineering, nuclear and conventional safety, ensuring risks, hazards, engineering authority requirements and safety case obligations are understood, managed and continuously improved.
• Lead engineering and maintenance resource planning, workforce capability development, succession planning and budget management, ensuring sustainable delivery capability and achievement of financial and performance targets.
• Act as the technical authority and intelligent customer for significant engineering programmes, projects and specialist services, ensuring safe, timely and cost-effective delivery aligned to business requirements.
• Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing organisation through effective leadership, performance management, coaching, mentoring and competency assurance, promoting professional standards and knowledge sharing.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, regulators, engineering authorities and customers, providing leadership, influencing strategic decision-making and driving collaboration across the enterprise.
• Undertake any additional duties commensurate with the role, capability and competence to support safe, secure and effective business operations.

Knowledge & Experience

• Higher-level qualification, or equivalent training and experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status, or demonstrable potential to achieve chartered status through an appropriate accredited professional institution.
• Significant engineering and maintenance experience, providing the depth and breadth of knowledge required to lead with credibility and influence at a senior level.
• Strong people leadership skills, with experience of leading teams and organisations, including performance management, coaching, mentoring, and the development of capability.
• Proven ability to operate effectively in a complex engineering environment, driving safe, compliant and high-performing delivery

Essential Skills

• Higher-level qualification, or equivalent training and experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Demonstrable evidence of delivering engineering, maintenance and asset management strategies aligned to business objectives.
• Proven people leadership skills, with experience developing organisational capability, driving accountability and continuous improvement, and balancing safety, performance, compliance and asset reliability.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, including engagement with senior leaders, regulators and external partners.
• Strong governance, compliance and assurance capability within a regulated engineering environment.
• Ability to lead change, performance optimisation and cross-functional collaboration to improve organisational effectiveness.

Desirable Skills

• Chartered Engineer status, or demonstrable potential to achieve chartered status through an appropriate accredited professional institution.
• Knowledge of asset management, maintenance optimisation and reliability engineering principles.
• Experience leading large-scale engineering improvement programmes or organisational change initiatives.
