Q+A with a Operations Support Team Member at Sellafield Ltd.

We have launched a number of vacancies within our Operations profession. We spoke with a member of the team to understand the role within our business and what a typical day looks like.
| What is your job title? | Operations Support Team Member |
| What is your background? | Time served Fitter with British Steel. I gained my ONC in Mechanical engineering. Before Spending 10 years lecturing in a local college in Engineering . I was an NVQ A1 Assessor and I have now been working at Sellafield for almost 8 years. |
| What is a typical day like in your role? | Arrive into my designated building. Carry out building checks. Reply to emails. Attend meetings/stakeholders. Review Operating instruction’s and other documentation. Then usually carry out some training for Operators on driving the crane or escort visitors around the plant and explain the building processes and answer any questions they may have. |
| What do you enjoy most about your job? | Feeling like I am making a difference, the sense of achievement when I see something I have supported come to fruition. The support and guidance from my Line Manager. Opportunities for training and new roles. |
| Why is your job important at Sellafield Ltd? | We support ongoing operations, allowing the Operations teams to carry out their roles effectively and efficiently. |
| Why did you decide to pursue this career? | I wanted to take the next step along the ‘process path’, moving from Pre-Operations into Ops Support to allow myself to make more use of the knowledge and expertise I have built up working on the projects I’ve been lucky enough be involved with. |

| What advice would you give to somebody considering this role as a career? | Be willing to be flexible and take the opportunities to expand your training and skills to enhance your career and the requirements of the teams you support. |
