Liaison Officers work within Analytical Services (AS), acting as the interface between AS and plants who require analysis. They take the lead on new analytical requests via the Task Charter process and, in doing so, are required to have a technical understanding of how AS operates from an analytical perspective. This is achieved by working closely with the analysing laboratories, requiring daily access to the active area. The role involves resolving issues for both customers and analysing laboratories, ensuring compliance with Conditions for Acceptance (CFAs) and working with the Safety Case team to ensure the safety envelope is maintained during sample preparation and analysis. Liaison Officers are also responsible for the escalation of analytical issues through the daily Plant Operational Control Centre (POCC) meeting. They use specialist software and maintain customer dashboards for regulatory and operational purposes.
To provide daily capability updates in the POCC. To utilise Labware for correct routing of samples within AS. To manage CFA compliance for samples received into AS. To manage the Task Charter process for requested analysis. To build and maintain excellent working relationships through collaboration and stakeholder management using clear, concise, and accurate communications. Control and supervise the construction work being undertaken assisting the Construction Manager with construction activities on Sellafield sites to ensure that activities are executed to meet the regulatory & statutory requirements of the Licensee, the product delivered meets the required specification, as well as the goals and objectives of the project and business. Assist in enabling that the construction works where there are plant interfaces and then oversees the works on behalf of the Construction Manager to ensure that the design intent is met.
Assist the Construction Manager with monitoring contractors in relation to site, contractual and statutory requirements and ensure contractors are aware of their subsequent responsibilities. Monitor the work of Contractors and their Supervisors on an ongoing basis providing input and suggesting adjustments based on instructions from others to ensure that contractors management take positive action to maintain safety, health, and environmental arrangements to the highest possible standard. Monitor contractor compliance based on documents reviewed / endorsed by others to ensure controlling documents submitted for review and endorsement are commented on prior to the commencement of work. Co-ordinate interfaces and liaise with contractors, designers, operators, work planners and client at site level to ensure any necessary permissions are in place, the flow of relevant information is uninterrupted and understood correctly. Promote a proactive and proportionate approach to safety (nuclear, radiological, conventional, and environmental) to optimize it on the construction site and to protect Sellafield Ltd from any undue risks. Assist with the discharge of Principal Contractor and Nominated Representative duties as required as to meet current UK Legislation and Sellafield Site Licence Conditions. Ensuring that construction activities are controlled in accordance with engineering arrangements (Conduct of Engineering Manual) and that all legal, regulatory, statutory, contractual and governance arrangements are met and in support of the site license. The HAL Inspections & Characterisation Team are responsible for the deployment of inspection and radiometric characterisation equipment within “Dark Cells” within both HALES and HLWP. This vacancy will provide a successful candidate with the opportunity to work alongside a variety of stakeholders in delivering vital inspection and characterisation work to underpin the continued operation of both plants and support the efficient wash out of vessels as part of Post Operation Clean Out (POCO). The position is a mixture of desk-based work - creating work packs, generating PMPs, planning work, and reviewing/updating inspection and characterisation strategies - alongside plant-based work, including equipment deployment and supervising contractors at the work face. In this role, the successful candidate will be exposed to a wide array of inspection and characterisation technologies, as well as novel techniques utilised to deploy the equipment into the HA cells, as required. This would be an excellent development opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their skills as or work towards their POW SQEP. SNM Technical Reporting to Hayley Green. SNM technical are seeking innovative and enthused chemists who want to be at the forefront of complex and technical problem solving at Sellafield. It is a fascinating time to join SNM Technical, with preparatory work underway to develop and progress new two new facilities: SRP, designed to retreat and repack our inventory, and the recently announced Plutonium Immobilisation Plant, which will take the next 30 years to research, mature, and build while continuing to store our SNM inventory (PuO2 and Mixed oxide residues) safely and securely. This offers unique scientific challenges for our technical teams working within SNM. The roles will provide technical underpinning and justification to SNM plants and projects (including the new SPRS Retreatment Plant (SRP) as we head towards active commissioning), delivering data analysis and technical assessments. They offer opportunity to solve novel and challenging technical issues within the SNM directorate by directing the scope of SNM’s Pu Science and Package Surveillance programme in the supply chain. Successful applicants will enable the progression of these projects and enable existing SNM operations through their delivery of technical support calling on their chemical and scientific skills. This will require successful candidates to provide on-plant support in most cases. As a highly collaborative role experience and confident communication with internal and external stakeholders including Major Projects, UKNNL, Universities and international laboratories is essential.
