About the role

The Developing Engineer scheme is designed to develop employees, who have a minimum level 3 qualification, (in an Engineering, Science or Technical subject), into critical roles including Plant, Maintenance and Reliability Engineers. This Expression of Interest will be advertised once per year and will be advertised for 4 weeks, closing on Sunday 17th May. Shortlisting will take place mid May and Informal Discussions will be held June 2026. Successful applicants will commence a 2-year programme, commencing in January 2027, where they will take part in a number of placements across Engineering & Maintenance. They will be provided with a support network. Current base pay and associates allowances (excluding shift pay), will be retained for the duration of the scheme. If the successful candidate was currently in receipt of shift pay, this will cease on commencement of the scheme as this position is a day role. Subject to successful completion of all programme requirements, successful applicants will be confirmed in post to B4B. It is expected that interested applicants who are not already studying towards a level 5/6 qualification, raise a Further and Higher Education request to commence study in the 2026/27 Academic Year. The Platform Engineer III QlikView / PowerBi is accountable for the strategic implementation, ongoing maintenance, and continuous optimisation of our core platforms. Watch Managers play a critical leadership role within SF&RS. Acting on behalf of the Station Manager, they supervise and develop teams of firefighters to ensure readiness for fire, medical, environmental and other emergency incidents. They provide incident command, manage safety-critical and SQEP training and oversee the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire and rescue equipment. Watch Managers also support multi-agency coordination, apply JESIP principles and contribute to strategic site command operations, including liaison duties at the Main Site Command Facility (MSCF). Provide an expert front line civil maintenance support service to improve and maintain the effectiveness of the plant/facility.

Deliver a front-line civil maintenance engineering service decreasing the mean time to repair to ensure efficiency of the plant/facility. Collaborate with Plant Engineer and supply chain contractors to enable the efficient delivery of business objectives. Proactively identify plant problems (especially recurring issues) and co-ordinate appropriate corrective maintenance actions with minimal/no supervision from Line Management. Comply with appropriate regulations, standards and policies and carries responsibility for safety, cost and quality standards for their teams. Liaise with the Plant Engineers to prioritise civil maintenance activities to optimise operations and maintain safety. Effectively organise civil maintenance work (POW) for supply chain contractors, preparing work packages for the one-off civil maintenance activities (outside of the work planning process) to allow prompt delivery of work. Confirm specification requirements (typically with Plant Engineer) for civil maintenance works and then liaison with supply chain contractors to ensure works are completed as per the specification.
