About the role

An exciting opportunity has become available to join the IWM team as a Senior Strategy Advisor. In this key role, you’ll lead and deliver a number of high-impact work packages across the enterprise helping to shape and drive strategic initiatives that make a real difference. The IWM team is split into three different areas which covers: - Higher Activity Waste (HAW). - Lower Activity Waste (LAW)/ Controlled Waste. - Effluents. Please note this vacancy is only open to those who are in the Technical profession.

The role advertised will involve working closely with the Senior Strategy Mangers who are responsible for providing strategic assurance to the Site Strategic Authority. The role includes leading the development and maintenance of key waste strategy information including the Sellafield Ltd Waste Management Plan (WMP) and Integrated Waste Implementation Plan (IWIP). The role incumbent will develop breadth of understanding across the entire waste management system, where appropriate collaborating across the NDA Group to support optimising waste management pending disposal and will become / work towards becoming a strategy subject matter expert within the IWM team. Furthermore, the deliverables offer an opportunity to gather evidence for registration / chartership with professional bodies such as The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) (not an exhaustive list). As a Senior Strategy Advisor, you’ll deliver expert guidance and strategic insight to a diverse range of stakeholders, driving forward key objectives that align with the vision for IWM within the Site Strategy team. You’ll be instrumental in shaping future direction, influencing decision-making, and delivering tangible outcomes that support long-term sustainability and innovation. The role is primarily office based and can be located at either Hinton House (Risley) or Albion (Whitehaven). Watch Managers play a critical leadership role within SF&RS. Acting on behalf of the Station Manager, they supervise and develop teams of firefighters to ensure readiness for fire, medical, environmental and other emergency incidents. They provide incident command, manage safety-critical and SQEP training and oversee the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire and rescue equipment. Watch Managers also support multi-agency coordination, apply JESIP principles and contribute to strategic site command operations, including liaison duties at the Main Site Command Facility (MSCF). The role demands resilience, sound judgement and the ability to lead by example in high-pressure environments. Lead and develop operational teams to maintain SF&RS emergency response capabilities. SNM Inspections Team Technical Advisor

The SNM inspections team are responsible for carrying out the Examination, Inspection, Maintenance and Testing of all SNM packages and assets supporting site license conditions requirements within the SNM Strategy and Technical team. Inspections of SNM packages are carried out as evidence to underpin the safe and secure storge of SNM, prior to longer term and final disposal of SNM. In addition, the role requires collaboration with innovation to support the delivery of inspection improvement on to plant. In addition to the SNM package inspection program, the Inspections team deliver the asset inspections program, evaluating the current store and facility conditions, and carry out data analysis to assess storage conditions. Again, this work ties in closely with the SNM innovation team to deliver improvements of asset inspections and data collection and processing. The role is based within Albion square, with the requirements to carryout C2/C3 plant work on the Sellafield Site when required in order to support inspections programs and other technical business needs. The SNM inspections team form an integral part of underpinning the Sellafield mission of Safe and Secure storage of SNM. As part of the inspections team, you will be required to become a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) against site licence condition 28 by working with a mentor to learn about the requirements. The role requires you to collaborate with the SNM operations teams and the SNM innovation team to support the delivery of inspections improvements on to plant. You will analyse data, assessing package and storage conditions and author technical reports which support the ongoing SNM safe storage case.

Support delivery of the SNM package inspection program by carrying out on plant inspections to comply with SLC28 (Examination, Maintain, Inspect and Test), including becoming SQEP to carry out this role. Deliver technical reports including inspection reports, technical justifications and data analyse to support the underpinning of SNM safe storage. Deliver technical packages of work to support inspection improvement, from proposing to implementing onto plant. Why SNM? It is a fascinating time to join SNM Technical, with preparatory work underway to develop and progress new two new facilities: SPRS Retreatment Plant (SRP), designed to retreat and repack our inventory, and the recently announced Plutonium Immobilisation Plant, which will take the next 30 years to research, mature, and build.
