Our Procurement and Supply Chain team drives Sellafield’s mission by acquiring and managing goods, services, and solutions. We deliver end-to-end procurement services, from strategy and market engagement to contract and supplier management. Collaboration is key, with initiatives like Supplier Relationship Management and SME partnerships fostering innovation and value. In 2021/22, SMEs made up 34% of our total spend. “The work I do is important. Our radiometrics equipment keeps people safe. Without it we wouldn’t be able to run the site. It’s difficult in that a lot of our buildings are old and the equipment in them is obsolete. There is a challenge is in retrofitting new into old or safely extending the life of what we have therefore we are exploring opportunities to upgrade rather than replace.

Because we’re a publicly funded organisation, most frameworks have to be replaced every four years to ensure that we’re getting the best value and also to give opportunities to others in the supply chain to compete for the work. Therefore we need a team to run the competition process – evaluating the bids, getting the necessary approvals to award the contracts.”
