Operations graduate programme Operations – an exciting and challenging profession to work in where you will be responsible for working in multi-discipline teams to deliver projects and programmes safely, on schedule and to budget. Operations is an exciting profession that includes the four “Value Streams”: Remediation, Retrievals, Special Nuclear Materials, and Spent Fuel Management, as well as Site Management – Infrastructure. With an increasing focus on waste processing and environmental remediation, each area poses unique challenges requiring specialised training. At Sellafield, nearly a third of the ~12,000 workforce is in Operations, with others providing essential support services. As an Operations Graduate, you’ll participate in diverse activities across new and aged facilities, including Legacy Ponds and Waste Plants, while also supporting cutting-edge technology and remotely operated equipment throughout the nuclear lifecycle, from construction to decommissioning. Typical Roles and Responsibilities In Operations, understanding all areas is vital. You will have six-month placements across our value streams, supporting management to ensure legal compliance and safety. These placements will help you experience key operational areas and tailor your development. You’ll enhance core skills, assist in safety activities, and contribute to quality in our facilities. You’ll develop safety documentation, manage challenging projects, and interact with regulators. Your graduate development will be personalised, with placements discussed in advance to align with your background and business needs. Progression possibilities Beyond the graduate program, the Operations Profession offers diverse opportunities based on individual aspirations. Upon successful completion, you will join a front-line team, taking on a role similar to your scheme work but with increased responsibility. Our goal is to support your development toward becoming a future leader in Operations. You will create a Development Plan outlining training and skills needed for your chartership journey and beyond. Potential leadership roles include Operations Team Leader, Work Week Manager, Operations/Support Manager, and Integration Manager. Suitable degree disciplines We’re looking for graduates with a minimum of a 2:2 (Hons) a STEM Bachelors / Masters degree, and will also consider other candidates with a strong interest in Operations and Leadership, where they can show the balance of behavioural and technical capabilities required.
