At Sellafield, Engineering & Maintenance presents unique challenges, driving high-hazard reduction through safe, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions. Our Graduate program features four dynamic 6 month placements designed to enhance your technical expertise and professional capabilities. From day one, you’ll experience genuine inclusivity while rotating through plant operations, equipment programs, central operations, and design roles over two years, depending on your discipline. Beyond your core placements, you’ll engage in diverse projects, contribute to community initiatives through social impact and STEM activities, and focus on personal growth. The program culminates in opportunities for permanent positions within your business area, offering a clear path to career advancement. Typical Roles and Responsibilities The business area encompasses diverse engineering roles: Reliability Engineers who take a holistic view of systems, ensuring operational safety and design intent. Maintenance Engineers provide frontline support, working to solve issues and document modifications. Equipment Engineers manage specific technologies from robotics to turbines. Equipment Services Engineers handle infrastructure inspection and maintenance. Plant Facing Design Office delivers multi-discipline design solutions. Central teams lead engineering processes, managing configuration, reliability, and asset information systems. Progression possibilities Your work will align with UK SPEC, supporting your progression toward IEng and CEng. A professionally registered Technical Mentor will assist you during the Graduate Scheme and throughout your career at Sellafield Ltd, with an expectation of achieving professional registration. After completing the scheme, you will be offered a permanent role in Engineering & Maintenance in West Cumbria, similar to your previous work but with increased responsibility. Ongoing training and practical experience will support your transition into this role as you leave the scheme. Do you have a good support network? The work I have been involved in at Sellafield has been challenging and stimulating, and throughout I’ve had support and guidance when needed. I get regular feedback from my line managers and from the graduate programme leads. I also have an IMechE mentor which is a real asset as I work towards IMechE chartership.
