Wherever you join us, you won’t be treated like a student. You’ll be a fully-fledged member of the team.

1-Year Industrial Placements

You’ll be given true responsibility on major projects that contribute to our present challenge and future mission. Learning and development isn’t just for our permanent people, it’s part of our DNA, and you will have many high-calibre formal training opportunities.

What will accelerate your development most rapidly is the people you work with.  We have industry-leaders (and world-leaders) with decades of experience to share and a passion for supporting the next generation.

10-Week Summer Placements

You can learn a lot in 10 weeks. And we intend to help you do just that. Like our industrial placement students, you’ll be treated as a member of the team with plenty to offer and plenty to learn.

You’ll get involved in business-critical work, experience far-reaching training and be supported by outstanding professionals.

    Browse our opportunities on the search and apply page. Fill in all required fields, include your degree and experience, and check emails regularly. Top tip: Be clear about why you’re applying and your career goals.

  • Online assessment

    If eligible, you’ll complete an online Strength & Values assessment. It evaluates key skills while offering insights into your strengths. You’ll have 5 working days to complete this step.

  • Video interview

    If successful, join a Strength-Based Video Interview. Share examples of your strengths and how you handle situations. Show us what you’re naturally good at and bring your unique skills to the table.

  • Conditional offer

    If you successfully at interview, you could secure a conditional offer. Join a team driving change and contributing to the environment and community.

  • Pre-employment checks

    Your offer depends on completing security clearance and a medical check. These checks ensure compliance with Sellafield’s safety and security standards.

  • Confirmation of start date

    After completing checks, we’ll confirm your start date. The Sellafield Ltd Placement Scheme is cohort-based and all students start towards the end of June.

You’ll be on course for at least a 2:2 in your degree discipline. For some Engineering subjects we would prefer you to be working towards a Masters level degree. Preference is given to those in their penultimate year of study.

Our placements are directly linked with our Graduate programme, meaning that following a successful placement with us, you may be offered a position on our graduate programme when you complete your degree. This is subject to their being a suitable vacancy available.

We have a thriving student and graduate community run by an elected group of representatives who organise frequent social activities. You will also be assigned buddy who will be more of a peer support and will help you transition into your placement.

    Industrial Placements

    As an Industrial Placement student, you’ll earn a competitive salary of £25,959 per annum and receive 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays. If you’re relocating here from more than 30 miles away, we’ll support you with an additional relocation allowance of £1,200.

    Summer Placements

    For Summer Placement students your competitive salary will be dependant on what age you are when you join us, and be pro rata over 10 weeks. You’ll also receive holiday allowance that reflects your length of employment with us.

FAQs

  • The industrial/summer Placement scheme links directly with the graduate scheme. Therefore we’d prefer you to be in your penultimate year of study when applying, but not essential.

  • Both Placement Schemes will start at the end of June – your start date will be dependent on successful completing pre-employment checks.

  • As a student you will be assessed during your placement with us. Successful students may be offered a place on the graduate programme ready for when they graduate, this is dependent on suitable vacancies/roles being available.
