Liaison Officers work within Analytical Services (AS), acting as the interface between AS and plants who require analysis. They take the lead on new analytical requests via the Task Charter process and, in doing so, are required to have a technical understanding of how AS operates from an analytical perspective. This is achieved by working closely with the analysing laboratories, requiring daily access to the active area.

The role involves resolving issues for both customers and analysing laboratories, ensuring compliance with Conditions for Acceptance (CFAs) and working with the Safety Case team to ensure the safety envelope is maintained during sample preparation and analysis.

Liaison Officers are also responsible for the escalation of analytical issues through the daily Plant Operational Control Centre (POCC) meeting. They use specialist software and maintain customer dashboards for regulatory and operational purposes.

Principal Accountabilities

• To provide daily capability updates in the POCC.
• To utilise Labware for correct routing of samples within AS.
• To manage CFA compliance for samples received into AS.
• To manage the Task Charter process for requested analysis.
• To build and maintain excellent working relationships through collaboration and stakeholder management using clear, concise, and accurate communications.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential Skills

• Experience delivering Technical work scope at the appropriate grade.
• Technical Qualifications in a scientific discipline, or an appropriate alternative.
• Competent use of Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Ability to complete activity calculations, informing sample acceptance criteria.
• Demonstrable customer focus with excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• High initiative and attention to detail.
• Ability to assess customer needs and deliver a timely and safe solution.
• Demonstrable experience of working in environments which require focus and attention on safety.
• Be both competent and confident to challenge.
• Ability to work in an active area, hold SC clearance and monitored workers status.

Desirable Skills

• Experience of using the Labware Sample Management System.
• Knowledge of analytical instrumentation and methods, and their limitations.
• Experience of working in Analytical Services.
• Knowledge of sitewide Sellafield operations.

The role of the Liaison Officer in the delivery of analytical results to customers, and the importance of communication to enable this.
