Job Description CE&l lead Design Engineer is responsible for leading a team of Internal and External Engineers and Designers to produce design deliverables from all stages of the SL gated Process from Studies (scoping for asset care) through to Detailed Design and support to Manufacture, Installation and Commissioning. There are five roles available two of which are within the Remediation Final Decommissioning Division the first in Alpha area, the second in Calder / Windscale area. Two are available in CE&I capability, the first as a Subject Matter Expert for ESI and the second as a Subject Matter Expert for PES. One is available in Site Management Project Office. Remediation Final Decommissioning (Alpha & Calder / Windscale Projects): CE&I Lead Design Engineer, reporting to the CE&I Responsible Engineer with responsibility for a portfolio of asset care tasks, minor and major projects within the Remediation Project Office. Remediation Project Office is responsible for the delivery of projects and tasks under numerous facilities across Sellafield site. The design team has member based at both site and Hinton House. SMPrO: CE&I Lead Design Engineer, reporting to the CE&I Responsible Engineer with responsibility for a portfolio of asset care tasks, minor and major projects within the Site Management Project Office. CE&I Capability (ESI &PES SMEs): CE&I Lead Design Engineer, reporting to the relevant Subject Matter Capability Leader, responsibility for a portfolio of projects delivery specific to their subject matter expertise. Principal Accountabilities • Develop engineering schemes to support the selection of the viable option during studies. • Define, implement and deliver engineering design work packages that are safe, legally compliant, fit for purpose and meet functional and business requirements to contribute to the successful completion of Engineering Design projects. • Assist the discharging of Intelligent Customer duties to support the production of design deliverables by the supply chain (as appropriate to the delivery mechanism). • Provide engineering design support to the System Engineering community (or other relevant areas) to address emergent issues and provide design solutions to support existing assets. • Pragmatically complies with all legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures e.g. safety, quality, risk, security etc. applicable to the role. • Specialist area support to Projects, in one or more areas (e.g. ESI/PES/RSI/Safety Systems etc). • Competent to manage a team of engineers providing specialist technical and investigation expertise in support of projects. Knowledge & Experience Essential Skills • Incorporated / Chartered Engineer Status from a relevant professional institution. (applicants who are imminently in the process of applying or waiting to hear the outcome from the IET will be considered). • Demonstrable track record of delivery. • Demonstrable excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Demonstrable evidence of strong leadership and organisation skills. • Pragmatic approach to problem solving and ability to apply engineering judgement. • SQEP Designer to SR0754. • SC Cleared. CE&I Capability (ESI): • Level 3 SQEPed for Electrical Protection delivery. • Active contribution to a ESI CoE. CE&I Capability (PES): • Level 3 SQEPed for Programmable Electronic Systems (PES) delivery. • Level 2 SQEPed for CE&I Security in Design (Cyber) delivery. • Active contribution to the PES and/or CE&I SiD CoE Desirable Skills Typically the desirable skills required for a CE&I Design Engineer include: • Experience of working in a multi-discipline environment. • Project experience and understanding how engineering solutions fit into the wider project value stream. • Working knowledge of Sellafield Gated Process. • A sound understanding of Project Delivery Engineering fundamentals. • Experience in contributing to/developing programmes and estimates to support project/task planning. • Familiarity with the Sellafield site and the interconnectivity between plants. • Understanding of Ops, Commissioning and Construction constraints in design. • Effective communication skills and the ability to convey information to a range of stakeholders. • Experience in team management and leadership. • Active contribution to a specialist skill area (e.g. ESI / PES / RSI / Safety Systems etc). • Experience of UKCA marking process, including compilation of Technical Files and demonstration of EHSR compliance. • Experience collaborating with systems engineering and operations in the delivery of projects with a willingness to spend substantial time at Sellafield site.
