Job Description To organise, lead, coordinate and direct a design engineering team in the definition, implementation and delivery of safe, legally compliant, pragmatic, fit for purpose design solutions that meet functional and business requirements. Individuals within this Engineering Design Level will be performing a Senior Design Engineer 2 job within a business area. Knowledge & Experience • Considerable knowledge of CE&I engineering discipline and its application within nuclear projects. • Able to successfully apply engineering knowledge to deliver innovative products and services. • Theoretical knowledge to solve problems in new technologies and develop new analytical techniques. • Breadth of knowledge across all engineering disciplines. • Provides local leadership on nuclear safety and security. • Comprehensive knowledge of governing laws, key regulations and standards for the nuclear industry and experience in applying them appropriately on projects. • Thorough understanding of the structure of the Engineering Design community and the key interfaces with other areas of the business. • A good appreciation of manufacturing techniques and a general awareness of the constraints they impose on the product definition. • Knowledge of the Sellafield Ltd. Management System structure and the hierarchy of standards with a thorough understanding of those standards most relevant to Engineering Design and experience of applying these appropriately on projects. • Thorough understanding of the Project Delivery Fundamentals and experience using these to ensure projects meet business and functional requirements. • Detailed knowledge of the Nuclear Professionalism Standards and Expectations, driving their use amongst Engineering Design teams. • Good commercial awareness. • Knowledge of the role and accountabilities associated with the Intelligent Client and a basic understanding of how this role is discharged within Engineering Design. • Clear understanding of organisational arrangements with the ability to network and connect with other professions in order to deliver successful outcomes. • Strong awareness and understanding of historic and current nuclear events and their impact on the work performed by Sellafield Ltd. Essential Skills • Significant experience working in roles where knowledge of engineering is a key attribute. • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading and delivering fit-for-purpose engineering design solutions to time, cost and quality requirements. • Leadership experience. • Considerable experience of managing professionally qualified engineers. • Considerable experience of working collaboratively with the supply chain to deliver successful projects and work packages. • Graduate (minimum BEng, preferred Meng) or equivalent in relevant subject. • Chartered Engineer status (or proof that you have submitted your application and it has been accepted by the relevant institute and you are just waiting for an interview). • Meeting the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of CE&I specific Professional Institute. • Capable of becoming a SQEP Monitored Worker. • PES CoE SQEP Level 2. Desirable Skills • Experience of having personal responsibility for decisions involving substantial resources and their consequences. • Experience of leading change and / or improvement programmes amongst engineering teams with demonstrable results. • Leading large teams • Experience of working with collaborative commercial frameworks. • PES CoE SQEP Level 3.
