Job Description To operate as a leader within the Engineering Design community. Being accountable for, the development and maintenance of company wide capability to support the SL Value Streams in the CE&I Security Subject matter specialism. By ensuring the provision of expert advice and guidance, standards and training, design assurance, and delivery of fit for purpose design solutions that meet functional and business requirements. Individuals within this Engineering Design Level will be performing a Principal Design Engineer 1 job within a business area. The appropriate delivery role is Design Capability Leader. For responsibilities, accountabilities and authorities refer to the relevant R2A2 namely ED15. Knowledge & Experience Experience & Performance: • Significant and broad experience working in roles where knowledge of engineering is a key attribute. • Significant and broad experience working within a highly regulated and quality assured system in roles where professional engineering judgement is the key attribute. • Experience working in a variety of roles within the Engineering Profession. • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading and delivering large, fit-for-purpose design engineering solutions to time, cost and quality requirements. • Extensive team leadership experience. • Significant experience of managing professionally qualified engineers. • Significant experience of having personal responsibility for decisions involving substantial resources and their consequences. • Considerable experience of leading change and / or improvement programmes amongst engineering teams with demonstrable results. • Extensive experience of working collaboratively with the supply chain to deliver successful projects and work packages. Knowledge: • Considerable knowledge of specific engineering discipline and its application within nuclear projects. • Knowledge of the CE&I Security in Design specialist area • Breadth of knowledge across all engineering disciplines. • Provides local leadership on nuclear safety and security. • Comprehensive knowledge of governing laws, key regulations and standards for the nuclear industry and considerable experience in applying them appropriately on projects. • Thorough understanding of the structure of the Engineering Design community and the key interfaces with other areas of the business. • Knowledge of the Sellafield Ltd. Management System structure and the hierarchy of standards with a thorough understanding of those standards most relevant to Engineering Design and considerable experience of applying these appropriately on projects. • Good commercial awareness. • Knowledge of the role and accountabilities associated with the Intelligent Customer / Intelligent Client and an understanding of how this role is discharged within Engineering Design. • Clear understanding of organisational arrangements with the ability to network, connect with and influence other professions in order to deliver successful outcomes. • Working knowledge of the Sellafield Ltd. Project Delivery Fundamentals and the need for proportionate application in accordance with the professional body of knowledge. • Detailed knowledge of the Nuclear Professionalism Standards and Expectations, driving their use amongst Engineering Design teams. Essential Skills • Chartered status with relevant institute (typically IET, IoP, IMC) • Meeting the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of their discipline specific Professional Institute • SQEP level 3 in CE&I Security in Design or PES, ideally both. Or the ability to approve an equivalence. Desirable Skills • Demonstrable experience in a senior management position of successfully leading and delivering large and / or complex, fit-for-purpose design engineering solutions to time, cost and quality requirements. • Proven ability to successfully operate at a strategic level. • Clear understanding of organisational arrangements with the ability to network, connect with and influence other professions in order to deliver successful outcomes. • Ability to exercise a high degree of professional judgement.
