Job Description The role is that of CS&A Independent Structural Assessment Capability Lead. This is a Design Capability role in a technical specialist area to lead a structural assessment delivery team and provide expert advice and guidance. The candidate will be required to lead a team of CS&A Assessors with responsibility for • Delivering Independent Structural Assessment in accordance with SLSP 1.02.09.01. • Ensuring that the appropriate engineering processes are developed and maintained for Independent Structural Assessment. • Undertaking review of CS&A analysis and design to ensure the structural design philosophies and concepts are well-reasoned, fit for purpose and safe. • Ensuring that review are trended to maintain the quality of the engineering solutions produced by the Engineering Design teams. • Where appropriate, guiding the development of suitable and sufficient fit-for-purpose solutions. • Where appropriate, providing consultancy support, and advice. Successful role holder will be expected to work effectively at both Risley / Sellafield sites to be effective in delivery of their role and responsibilities. This is a delivery role that falls within EDLP7. This role requires the candidate to lead and manage the Independent Assessment of CS&A designs and ensure they are safe, legally compliant, fit for purpose design solutions that meet functional and safety requirements. Essential Skills • Demonstrable experience working in roles where knowledge of structural design is a key attribute. • Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively to deliver successful projects and work packages. • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of ANSYS, LS-DYNA, response spectrum analysis, SSI / SSSI, finite element analysis techniques and appropriate validation and verification techniques • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of application of SL Engineering Standards for seismic analysis and design • Considerable knowledge of civil and structural engineering relating to nuclear structures both new and existing – covering analysis tools, seismic analysis, and fault load scenarios for complex designs. • Experience of producing Impact Assessments including R3 methods • Knowledge of SL plants and SEMS processes relevant to structural design / analysis / ISA Assessment methodology. • Comprehensive and detailed understanding of legislation, regulations and standards relevant to structural design and analysis. • Experience of producing structural substantiation documentation and producing engineering judgements • Knowledge of temporary works design and innovative construction/dismantling methodologies. Education – Academic & Professional Qualifications • MEng or equivalent in relevant discipline • Chartered status with relevant Professional Institution • Actively pursuing Fellowship of relevant discipline Professional Institution • Meeting the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of their Professional Institution Desirable Skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Experience of resolving technical queries and challenges with Regulators Additional Information • Open VN • Number of Vacancies: 1 • Contact/s: Mark Offord The interviews for this vacancy are expected to take place on 2nd October 2026.
