Job Description Data Engineers are responsible for the design, development and delivery of data services and solutions in line with ISO/ICT’s and Sellafield Ltd’s strategic goals. This includes building and managing data pipelines, supporting integration into systems and business processes, and ensuring compliance with data governance, assurance, and quality standards. Role-holders will play a key part in enabling datadriven decision-making across Sellafield Ltd and furthering the digital ambition across the business. Principal Accountabilities • Design, develop and continuously improve data pipelines by writing extract, transform, and load (ETL) scripts, and code, and identifying opportunities to maximise speed, scalability, and efficiency. • Integrate data from different sources, implementing data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics, and business intelligence (BI) systems. This may include documenting source-totarget mappings, data profiling, and source system analysis. • Support the build of data streaming systems to realise the benefits of real-time data. • Build accessible data for analysis by applying data processing techniques, such as cleansing, aggregation, filtering, and enrichment. • Design, build and test reusable data solutions and services, such as business intelligence reports. This includes reviewing stakeholder requirements, identifying risks, and presenting insights. • Ensure the design of data solutions and services aligns to architectural and Secure by Design principles, policies, and organisational standards. • Ensure adherence to appropriate data governance, assurance, compliance, and quality standards. This may include, but is not limited to, participating in the Enterprise Data Governance Board (EDGB), and establishing data quality checks. • Monitor the performance of data solutions and services and contribute to the implementation of remedies and preventive measures where appropriate. • Continuously identify areas for improvement in data solutions, services, processes, and standards, such as re-engineering manual data flows to enable scaling and repeatable use. • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the latest trends and best practices in data tools, analysis techniques, and data usage, and support their implementation where appropriate. Authorities & Dimensions • Data Engineer II has line management responsibility of 1-5 roles. • Data Engineer II can act as the delegate for the relevant Data and Dev Manager as required. Essential Skills • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant field, such as computer science, IT, technology, or data analytics. • Previous experience in data engineering, data science, data management, data integration, data modelling, or data optimisation, or equivalent. • Strong technical expertise in tools, platforms and services related to data engineering, such as Alteryx, FME, Azure, and AWS. • Experience of SQL, Oracle, Dataverse, Toad Data modeler, SSIS or complimentary platform(s). • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to form collaborative relationships. • Effective communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts into business language. • Proficiency in Python and C# or VB. • Experience using Power BI and DAX for data visualization and self-service Bl. • Strong analytical skills, able to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement. Desirable Skills • ITIL Foundation certified, or higher/advanced qualifications, or equivalent. • Previous experience in a leadership or team management role. • Membership of the British Computer Society, or other equivalent professional body. • Understanding of Sellafield Ltd, including its operations and ICT estate or equivalent.
