About the role

Role Purpose:
To provide effective line management to the Engineering Test Team responsible for the Electrical Distribution Network, ensuring all activities are undertaken in accordance with internal processes and procedures, including SLSP 1.06.63.01 ‘Verification, Testing & Commissioning of Electrical Distribution Equipment’ and its supporting arrangements.

Authorities:
• Review, assess, and approve Technical Queries and fault observations.
• Authorise the use of temporary commissioning aids in line with relevant procedures and controls.
• Authorise the commencement and cessation of work activities within the defined scope.

Key responsibilities

The Electrical Distribution Test Team Manager is accountable to the Distribution Network Commissioning Manager for:
• Leading, coaching and managing the resources of the Electrical Distribution Test Team in support of the Sellafield Ltd (SL) Electrical Distribution Network. Ensuring high standards, deployability and training are all complete and in date.
• Supporting the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering function.
• Promoting site standards and expectations regarding safe working behaviours across the Electrical Distribution Test Team.
• Ensuring all duties are carried out in full compliance with the relevant Engineering Standards and procedures (SLM 1.06.63, SLSP 1.06.63.01, and associated SLFs).
• Overseeing the handover of project plant and equipment in accordance with functional and handover requirements defined within SL processes and procedures (SLSP 1.06.63.02).
• Providing configuration management oversight for designated projects and/or equipment.
• Acting as the interface between Project Delivery and Operations to ensure effective coordination and communication.
• Delivering training and support to Operations and Engineering AP(e) personnel.
• Providing technical support and training relating to the testing, commissioning, and operation of the Electrical Distribution Network.
• Acting as Operations Client for projects that impact the Electrical Distribution Network.
• Ensuring the Electrical Distribution Test Team Member role is assigned only to individuals who have demonstrated the required qualifications, experience, professional accreditation, and behavioural competencies as defined in MG0147 and MG0206.
• Deliver the assigned work scope in accordance with the agreed strategy and schedule, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
• Monitor testing progress and performance, identifying issues and implementing appropriate corrective actions where required.
• Manage day‑to‑day engagement with relevant personnel to secure necessary permissions and minimise impacts on project activities.
• Review and assess commissioning test results to verify compliance with technical, safety, and quality requirements.
• Ensure that inputs to related project processes—such as design, HAZOP, risk management, contract development, estimating, and knowledge management—are provided accurately and in a timely manner.
• Assessing and verifying the competence of Electrical Distribution Test Team members to ensure they meet required standards.

Your Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience:
• Higher‑level qualification in electrical engineering or relevant experience.
• Previous SQEP status under SR1531/32/33 or SR0007 as a Nominated or Authorised Person (Electrical), or an equivalent accreditation.
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of the Sellafield Electrical Distribution Network, or a comparable complex electrical infrastructure.
• Proven understanding and practical experience of electrical protection systems and interlocking schemes.
• Prior experience working with electrical distribution equipment across HV and/or LV systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical safety principles, regulations, and operational risks. • Understanding of Sellafield Ltd testing arrangements under SLM 1.06.63, or experience with equivalent testing and commissioning frameworks.

Essential Skills:
• Higher‑level qualification in an electrical engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical safety principles and their practical application.
• Detailed understanding of the 2200 Series Engineering Standards, or an equivalent engineering standards framework.
• Working knowledge of the requirements and intent of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).
• Understanding of project lifecycle stages, their associated requirements, and how to apply and enforce engineering standards throughout.
• Strong awareness of safety considerations and hazards associated with High Voltage (HV) distribution systems.
• Ability to communicate technical engineering issues clearly and appropriately to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Demonstrated capability in diagnosing and resolving electrical engineering problems.

Desirable Skills:
• Proven experience in leading and managing a team of maintainers and/or engineers within an operational or project environment.
• Current or previous authorisation as a Nominated Person (SR1531/32/33) or Authorised Person (SR0007), or equivalent industry‑recognised authorisation.
• Detailed knowledge and practical understanding of High Voltage (HV) switching operations and associated safety controls.
• Demonstrable experience in electrical testing and commissioning methodologies, practices, and standards.
• Holder of APM/PMQ or an equivalent project management qualification.
• Recognised as SQEP in the role of PMP Manager.
• Extensive knowledge of SLSP 1.06.63.01 – Verification, Testing & Commissioning of Electrical Distribution Equipment, or an equivalent suite of testing and commissioning arrangements.
