About the role We are seeking an Environmental End State Strategy Lead to manage the development, implementation and maintenance of the Sellafield Site End State. The role will support projects in decisions relating to site end state, taking responsibility for developing and maintaining the Site-Wide Environmental Safety Case (SWESC) and working collaboratively with the team to maintain the Waste Management Plan (WMP). The role requires the individual to lead both regulatory and stakeholder engagement on the Sellafield Site End State and associated deliverables, working with NDA and other Operating Companies to share learning and make improvements on Site End States. Key responsibilities • Lead and support optioneering assessments comparing different end state options, development of the site end states and taking through assurance and governance. • Lead development and maintenance of the SWESC, including delivering new issues/amendments, managing supporting radiological risk assessments, ensuring the requirement for a SWESC is embedded within the management system and liaising with the team maintaining the WMP. • Staying up-to-date with relevant legislation and guidance, working closely with regulatory organisations and NDA. • Procure and manage supply chain support for end states/SWESC work packages and act as intelligent client for SL. • Manage contractor delivered work packages including managing budgets. • Support facilities and projects regarding decisions that may impact on the end state. • Work with the Head of Site Strategy and with the Decommissioning Strategic Authority to ensure oversight of decisions within SL that may impact on the site end state. • Engage with regulators, the NDA and other external stakeholders to deliver end state strategy and SWESC development. • Engage internally at SL to raise awareness of end states and SWESC requirements. • Interface with decommissioning planning to ensure a joined-up approach to final stages of decommissioning and clean-up. • Interface with Strategy and Planning to ensure alignment of strategy assumptions and outyears plans. • Provide support to ensure Data, Information, Records and Knowledge (DIRK) arrangements adequately consider end state requirements. Your Skills and Qualifications • Higher scientific degree (MSc, PhD) alternatively, significant relevant work experience will also be taken into consideration. • Member of a relevant professional body. • Experience of land redevelopment projects, industrial sites, a background in treatment technologies, how to reduce waste, radioactive contamination etc • Experience in the development and assessment of strategic options in support of strategic decision making and/or the development of tactical implementation plans to deliver the strategic intent. • Experience of communication and engagement with stakeholders and regulators. • Experience procuring and delivering work with the supply chain. Skills Considered Desirable: • Chartered in a relevant discipline. • Experience in development/implementation of a Nuclear Site End State, or in development of associated guidance. • Working knowledge of Site Wide Environmental Safety Case and/or radioactive waste disposal environmental safety case. • Experience in the management/assessment of contaminated land and groundwater. • Delivery of near surface disposal safety case. • Delivery of radiological environmental risk assessment.
