Job Description

The Land Quality and End States team is responsible for the site-wide management of contaminated soils and groundwater. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual at their current grade, to join a multidisciplinary team, contributing to key environmental compliance activities and high-profile projects such as the MSSS Leak to Ground. The position involves a blend of fieldwork and desk-based tasks, supporting the implementation of new tools and techniques for monitoring and characterising ground contamination. In addition to developing technical expertise, the role provides opportunities to raise your profile within Sellafield Ltd and the wider NDA group.

Principal Accountabilities

• Support site delivery of tasks that are required in response to leakage from MSSS.
• Supporting site investigation, characterisation and monitoring tasks that further the understanding of the site geology and hydrogeology and contaminant distribution.
• Supporting the delivery of non-standard and novel characterisation and sampling trials.
• Supporting the development of the contaminated land conceptual site model to help assess the impact and risk of ground contamination.
• Completion of source term investigations by completing desk-based reviews of knowledge and data.
• Completing reviews and assessments of the results from site investigations.
• Reviewing and investigation of results from the groundwater monitoring programme, including interpretative reporting.
• Data management and use of GIS.
• Produce high-quality written reports and tasks in line with agreed timescales.
• Produce technical reports that document investigations and assessments.
• Write methods and scope of work documents to support site investigation activities.
• Deliver site-based data collection tasks as part of an integrated team
• Support other land quality team members in task delivery
• Continued professional development

Essential Skills

• Relevant Fieldwork/Sitework experience (e.g. site investigation, geological surveys, Environmental Sampling)
• Data assessment, analysis and presentation.
• Writing of technical reports and papers.
• Ability to work in an active area and achieve monitored worker status.

Desirable Skills

• Qualifications in relevant discipline (e.g. environmental, geosciences)
• Member of relevant professional body.
• Experience in site investigation of potentially contaminated sites.
• Held any of the following roles: Dangerous Goods Dispatch Office; Grade 1 Nominated Representative; Person Organising Work; Radiation Protection Supervisor
• Monitored Worker
• Recent experience in using Geographical Information Systems and Data Management Systems
