Job Description

The Nuclear Performance Manager is responsible for supporting the delivery of the site’s WANO improvement strategy and ensuring that learning from external assurance, operational experience, benchmarking and industry good practice is effectively translated into sustainable improvements across operational facilities.

Working under the direction of the Head of Nuclear Performance, the role provides leadership, coordination and challenge to facility and functional teams to improve operational performance, strengthen defence in depth, and reduce the risk of recurring performance issues.

The role acts as a focal point for monitoring programme performance, coordinating improvement activities, supporting governance arrangements and helping operational leaders implement strategic improvement programmes that enhance nuclear safety based on Sellafield’s performance against WANO programmes of Peer Review (PR) and enhanced Performance Monitoring (ePM).

This role may also involve representing the company internationally, and it may provide useful experience, and insights, for anyone interested in a secondment to WANO Paris Centre.

Core Accountabilities

WANO Programme Delivery and Improvement
• Support the development and implementation of site-wide WANO improvement strategies and programmes.
• Identify, assess and monitor performance gaps highlighted through WANO assessments, operating experience and benchmarking activities.
• Work with operational and functional teams to develop and track corrective action plans and improvement initiatives.
• Facilitate the sharing of lessons learned and best practice across facilities and central functions.
• Support the implementation of improvement programmes focused on common performance gaps across a range of functional areas within Sellafield.
• Take on additional role of WANO Interface Officer (WIO) if required.

Governance and Programme Oversight
• Support governance forums through the preparation of reports, programme summaries and improvement recommendations.
• Escalate emerging risks, barriers and trends that could impact programme delivery.
• Conduct periodic reviews of improvement plans and assess effectiveness of implemented actions.
• Assist facilities in establishing and maintaining effective governance arrangements for WANO-related improvement activities.

Operational Excellence and Organisational Learning
• Support initiatives that promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Coordinate benchmarking activities and support implementation of industry good practice.
• Assist in the development of performance measures and indicators that provide insight into organisational effectiveness and improvement maturity.
• Support / lead site-wide implementation of Operational Excellence.
• Help identify common performance themes and facilitate development of enterprise-wide solutions.

Stakeholder Engagement
• Build effective relationships with facility leadership teams, operational personnel and support functions.
• Provide professional advice and challenge to ensure performance risks are recognised and appropriately managed.
• Facilitate workshops, meetings and programme reviews with a range of stakeholders. • Support engagement with WANO and other industry organisations as required.
• Promote effective communication of programme expectations, improvement priorities and lessons learned across the organisation.

Programme Coordination
• Coordinate WANO-related improvement activities across multiple facilities and functions to ensure consistency and alignment.
• Track programme milestones, risks, actions and benefits realisation.
• Support preparation for external assessments, peer reviews, follow-up reviews and benchmarking activities.
• Provide progress updates and programme performance information to the Head of Nuclear Performance and senior stakeholders.

Knowledge & Experience

• Significant experience within the nuclear industry or another highly regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of nuclear safety principles, operational excellence and defence in depth.
• Experience of WANO programmes, performance improvement, assurance, operational excellence or continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience of analysing organisational performance, identifying trends and developing improvement plans.
• Experience of influencing and working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a complex organisational environment.
