The Platform Engineer III QlikView / PowerBi is accountable for the strategic implementation, ongoing maintenance, and continuous optimisation of our core platforms. This role demands a high level of technical ownership and leadership in collaborating with cross-functional teams to deeply understand and effectively translate user and business requirements into scalable platform solutions. The position involves proactively making informed recommendations based on a comprehensive understanding of system functionality and architecture. It includes identifying and championing opportunities for the adoption of leveraged technologies that streamline processes, enhance system performance, and elevate the end-user experience.

This role is critical to the reliable and secure operation of the platform and encompasses responsibility for overseeing licence and entitlement management, leading environment setup and lifecycle maintenance, and administering and optimising the platform gateway and related infrastructure components.

Principal Accountabilities

• Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Platform Administration and Environment Management within SL/ISO, for QlikView platform operations, ensuring stability, scalability, and alignment with business intelligence needs.
• Lead vendor relationship management activities, ensuring strategic alignment, fostering collaboration, and driving continuous improvement through structured engagement, performance reviews, and roadmap planning.
• Act as the primary point of contact for key suppliers, facilitating regular performance reviews, joint planning sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with organisational goals.
•Design, configure, and maintain QlikView environments (Development, Testing, Production), ensuring they are robust, secure, and aligned with organisational standards.
• Monitor environment performance, usage, and security across platforms such as QlikView; implement improvements and best practices to support the defined strategy and contribute to its ongoing development.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison with external platform vendors and service providers (e.g. Qlik), ensuring effective delivery and continuous evolution of platform capabilities.
• Manage supplier performance against agreed SLAs and KPIs, ensuring accountability for service quality, timely issue resolution, and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate platform-related changes and upgrades with external partners, ensuring alignment with internal governance, change management, and release processes.
• Identify opportunities for innovation and cost optimization through strategic supplier engagement and by maintaining awareness of vendor roadmaps and emerging technologies.
• Participate in contract and vendor reviews, providing technical input to procurement and commercial teams to ensure platform services meet both business and technical requirements.
• Ensure suppliers operate in accordance with Sellafield Ltd.’s compliance and security standards.
• Develop and enforce governance and compliance policies across environments, ensuring consistency and adherence to internal controls.
• Support the translation of business needs and requirements into practical concepts and designs, reviewing options for leveraging platform interfaces and application capabilities to recommend effective solutions.
• Contribute to the definition of bespoke development standards and practices for the wider enterprise development community, including source control, work management, infrastructure, tooling, and methodologies.
• Manage and optimise the allocation of platform licenses, ensuring cost efficiency and compliance with licensing terms.
• Track license usage, prepare periodic reports, and coordinate with procurement for renewals or additional licensing as needed. Maintain a record of officially supported applications by the development team and assist in their support.
• Stay informed of changes to licensing models and advise stakeholders on cost implications and opportunities for optimization.

Knowledge & Experience

• Configure, deploy, and maintain platform gateways (e.g., Power BI On-Premises Data Gateway, QlikView reload tasks) to ensure seamless connectivity between on-premises data sources and BI services.
• Collaborate with data owners and IT teams to secure and optimise data flows and refresh processes across the platform.
• Conduct regular audits of platform usage and access permissions, ensuring adherence to organisational and regulatory standards.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end-users and stakeholders across platform components, including QlikView dashboards and data refresh processes, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
• Work closely with IT, security, and business teams to ensure platform capabilities are aligned with organisational goals and strategic initiatives.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, new features, and best practices; recommend and implement innovative solutions and support asset lifecycle management.

Authorities and Dimensions:
• Accountable platform audits and processes ensuring documented reviews.
• Approver of change models for platform.
• Maintain a good understanding of the roadmap of live ITSM tooling.
• Maintain a good knowledge of industry standards for Tooling, including additional tools that would effectively support Service Management processes by making them more efficient, automated, and/or provide improved user experience.
• Line Management of up to 8 resources.
• Ensure Platform has well defined roadmap.
• Has authority with regards to the use of technology within Business Intelligence.
• Represent at internal and external meetings.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to junior team members.

The role operates within a highly regulated and technically complex environment, where digital platforms must consistently meet stringent compliance, security, and operational standards. This role is critical to the strategic delivery, governance, and optimisation of platforms such as Power Platform and Power BI, ensuring they are architected, configured, and maintained in alignment with both industry regulations and internal governance frameworks.

A key responsibility is to ensure that all platform activities—from environment provisioning to licence management—are executed with full regulatory compliance while enabling innovation, scalability, and operational efficiency. The Senior Platform Engineer plays a leading role in safeguarding secure data flows, enforcing access controls, and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external partners to uphold platform performance, resilience, and reliability.

Success in this role requires a deep understanding of compliance frameworks, a meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to balance technical agility with operational stability. The position also demands strategic foresight to anticipate risks, identify opportunities for improvement, and influence the evolution of platform capabilities in a dynamic and regulated digital landscape.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• In-depth knowledge of relevant technical domains, platforms, and operational processes.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends, patterns, and root causes in complex systems.
• Proficient in the use of relevant software tools and platforms; strong overall computer literacy.
• Typically expected to have significant specialised experience in QlikView IT experience in application development, deployment, and platform management.
• Demonstrated experience as a Platform Owner or in a similar senior technical role within the IT industry.
• Solid understanding of software development methodologies, including DevOps and CI/CD practices.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with experience influencing across technical and business teams.
• Data-driven mindset with a structured approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and associated tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira).
• Understanding of user experience (UX) principles and customer-centric design approaches.

Desirable Skills

• Strong knowledge of system architecture, cloud technologies (e.g., Azure, AWS), and virtualisation platforms.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and performance tuning tools.
• Advanced problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Exposure to regulatory or highly governed environments (e.g., nuclear, finance, healthcare).
• Experience contributing to or defining platform governance, compliance, and security standards.
