Job Description The Release and Deployment Manager is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Release and Deployment process and is responsible for the application, effectiveness and efficiency of this process, governing the standards that Sellafield ICT teams and IT Service Provider(s) must adhere to. They ensure that the introduction of new services into the Sellafield estate do so with minimal negative impact and maximum positive impact to existing services and users and are accountable for effective planning and communication of planned implementations. Reporting into the Release and Deployment Lead, this role delivers the day-to-day Release Management responsibilities as well as providing guidance and support to the Release and Deployment Analysts. Sellafield Ltd Information Services Organisation (ISO) own all ITSM processes. This role will support the Release and Deployment Management Process across the entire ICT organisation, including suppliers (10+) who will need to integrate into it and report any deviations accordingly. The main purpose of the Release and Deployment Management process is to manage the planning, building, testing and deployment (or retirement) of all Release units for an IT service, to deliver new or improved functionality as required by Sellafield Ltd whilst protecting the live services. As the Release and Deployment process is entirely new for Sellafield Ltd, it will be crucial to help establish the process, prove the benefits and expand the scope of the Release process to cover more releases over time, adding additional benefits. Principal Accountabilities General • Provide coaching, mentoring and support to Release and Deployment Analysts. Release and Deployment Management Responsible for ensuring that all IT teams follow the Release Deployment Management process and escalate non-conformity, including: • Validating Release and Deployment Management plans. • Building Release Packages. • Confirming testing completion (working closely with the Testing Services team). • Deployment of the Release from the Definitive Media Library (DML) or equivalent. • Releases have a planned support model (working closely with Service Design and Transition). • Transition to the planned support model takes place (working closely with Service Design and Transition). • Facilitate and Chair Release “Go/No Go” calls, where applicable. • Maintain quality checks on releases. • Coordinate releases to ensure that the integrity of all environments is protected and that the correct components are released, according to a documented implementation plan. • Ensure appropriate milestones are met and coordinate release sign off. • Facilitate release checkpoint meetings. • Identify and recommend service improvements. • Provide management information on releases to clients and senior management as required. • Identify and provide training to improve understanding of Release process. • Provide input for the release policy based on ITIL principles. • Log and maintain release/parent change records. • Update Master Release Calendar and Change Records to be included in the Forward Schedule of Change. • Gain release stakeholder approval. • Ensure inputs into the release process are reviewed and stored in a central repository i.e. Release Handover Notes and Test Closure Reports and stakeholder signoff/approvals etc. • Identify and report release contentions and constraints. • Communicate release progress. • Assist Release and Deployment Lead at Release Review Board meetings, record meeting decisions and actions for inclusion in meeting minutes. • Ensure release artifacts are up-to-date and appropriately stored. • Assist the Release and Deployment Lead in completing regular audits of the release process. • Provide advice and guidance to IT & Suppliers stakeholders. • Proactive engage with internal and external stakeholders. • Maintain a strong knowledge of the latest release management standards within the industry, as well as related fields such as software development and deployment methodologies. • Organise and conduct post implementation meetings to collect improvement suggestions for future releases if required. • Support escalations regarding coordination of environment, test and deployment teams. • To advise both ISO colleagues and the Service Providers on Release and Deployment strategy and priorities. Essential Skills • Subject Matter Expert in Release and Deployment Management. • Knowledge of Service Management Best Practice · Experience of managing Tier 1 IT Service Providers. • Experience of Service Management Toolsets. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to inform others using technical knowledge. • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and patterns. • Computer literate, including a good working knowledge of relevant computer software. • ITIL V3/4 Foundation Certificate. · Knowledge of the software development lifecycle. Desirable Skills • ITIL V3/4 Additional qualifications/certifications. • Additional skills and experience in Release Management related disciplines, for example Agile, DevOps.
