Job Description

You will provide expert safety leadership and technical assurance in relation to demolition and dismantling activities across the site. This includes both conventional demolition and complex dismantling within nuclear, radiological, and high-hazard environments.

Principal Accountabilities

• Acting as the technical Subject Matter Expert for demolition and dismantling safety.
• Providing authoritative advice to projects, operations and leadership teams.
• Influencing safe design, planning and execution of demolition and dismantling activities.
• Supporting hazard identification, risk control, and proportionate safety management.
• Developing and improving standards, guidance, and learning in the demolition/dismantling domain.
• Providing assurance and independent oversight of high-risk activities.
• Supporting investigations, learning and continuous improvement.
• Building capability and knowledge across the organisation in this specialist area.

At Specialist level, the role will additionally include:
• Setting technical direction and governance for demolition and dismantling safety.
• Acting as a recognised authority within the organisation.
• Leading complex safety challenges and influencing strategic decisions.
• Providing high-level assurance and expert judgement on major hazard risks.

Knowledge & Experience

About You:

We are seeking a credible and experienced safety professional with strong technical expertise in demolition and dismantling.

You will demonstrate:
• Significant experience in demolition methodologies and/or complex dismantling operations.
• Strong understanding of high-hazard risk management.
• Ability to influence and challenge at all organisational levels.
• Sound knowledge of UK safety legislation and regulatory expectations (specifically a detailed knowledge in application of BS 6187)
• Experience in safe management of asbestos abatement activities (licensed & non-licensed operations)
• Experience supporting planning and safe delivery of high-risk work.
• Strong communication, judgement, and professional credibility.

For Specialist level, you will also demonstrate:
• Deep technical authority in demolition/dismantling safety.
• Experience providing strategic safety leadership or governance.
• Ability to operate as a recognised expert and decision influencer.
• Proven capability managing complex, ambiguous, high-risk environments.

Essential Skills

Qualifications & Professional Membership:
• Relevant degree (or equivalent experience) in safety, engineering, construction, demolition or a related discipline.
• Relevant asbestos management qualification (e.g. British Occupational Hygiene Society BOHS)
• Recognised demolition/dismantling qualifications or industry experience is highly advantageous (Institute of Demolition Engineers (IDE) Foundation Degree in Demolition Management)
• Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, IDE, IMechE, ICS, etc.) is desirable.
• Holder (or previously held) of a Certificate of Competence of Demolition Operative (CCDO) – Advanced Operative/Supervisor/Manager – is desirable.

Additional Information

• The role level (Advisor/Specialist) will be determined through assessment of capability and experience.
• Internal and External applicants will be considered.
• Security clearance will be required for this role.
