Job Description Candidates will be responsible for leading the definition, assurance and delivery of sustainable Nuclear Ventilation & Building Services design solutions that meet the functional and business requirements across all areas within SL. The role requires individuals that are comfortable working within a multi-disciplined team environment and are able to achieve through collaboration. Being able to recognise stakeholders and actively engaging with them is also key to success. In supporting the above, candidates will be expected to both lead and develop other staff within this discipline. Additionally, there will also be opportunities to contribute and use your experience in developing and improving sector specific standards and guidance. Mentoring and development will be given to candidates to help support their progress in the business. Principal Accountabilities The candidate will be accountable for the design of Nuclear Ventilation & Building Services systems. This would also include specification and selection of plant & equipment. Support through manufacture, installation, commissioning, and operational phases (as well as design). Technical advice when needed across the business and support to assurance activities. The candidate will at times be accountable for supervising others delivering work in this area and the development of specialist staff. Knowledge & Experience The candidates would ideally be degree qualified in Building Services, Architectural or Environmental Engineering. They will either be Chartered Engineers with or working towards Chartered status. Applicants with Mechanical Engineering or other STEM qualifications and experience in the Building Services industry are welcome, as are candidates who have additional qualifications (e.g. specialist Building Services MSc) and experience in the Building Services industry. Applicants without a degree but with Technical Qualifications will be considered. Essential Skills Able to demonstrate delivery experience in design & specification of HVAC & Building Services systems, plant and equipment. Through gaining this experience, your career will have progressed to a point where you have also gained a broad understanding of the needs of other engineering and construction professionals and have the necessary technical & personal skills to be effective in an integrated team. In addition to problem solving capabilities in design, candidates would be familiar with creatively solving problems associated with manufacture, installation and operation of these systems. They will be comfortable with giving authoritative technical advice in this area, together with any necessary engineering justification. Your communication skills would allow clear understanding of concepts and solutions to other technical and non-technical colleagues. The nature of the role requires candidates with skills in team leadership as well as coaching and development of others. As a function lead for this discipline, you would have the necessary skills & experience to advise your projects on programme and cost. The presentation may focus on new build, refurbishment, or asset management (or all 3) to cover all candidates’ experience.
