Job Description

The role is that of CS&A Structural Analysis Design Capability Lead. This is a Design Capability role in a technical specialist area to lead a structural analysis delivery team and provide expert advice and guidance.

The candidate will be required to lead a team of CS&A Analysts with responsibility for:
• Delivering Structural Analysis work packages.
• Ensuring that the appropriate engineering processes are developed and maintained for Structural Analysis.
• Establishing, developing, maintaining and promoting the use of technologies and equipment based upon relevant good practice.
• Promoting and supporting improvements based on the identification, development and appropriate use of innovative designs, processes, tools and equipment.
• Agreeing the Engineering Design assurance activities for Structural Analysis scope with projects, ensuring that results are reviewed and trended to maintain governance over the quality of the engineering solutions produced by the Engineering Design teams.
• Guiding the development of suitable and sufficient fit-for-purpose solutions within the Structural Analysis discipline.
• Providing consultancy support, advice and guidance on Structural Analysis scope.
• Developing and creating company engineering standards relevant to Structural Analysis.

The successful role holder will be expected to work effectively at both Risley / Sellafield site, and occasionally at contractors and supplier sites to be effective in delivery of their role and responsibilities.

This is a delivery role that falls within EDLP7. This role requires the candidate to lead and coordinate the definition, implementation and delivery of safe, legally compliant, pragmatic, fit for purpose design solutions that meet functional and business requirements. The responsibilities, accountabilities and authorities for a Design Capability Lead can be found in ED15.

Knowledge & Experience

• MEng or equivalent in relevant discipline.
• Chartered status with relevant Professional Institution.
• Actively pursuing Fellowship of relevant discipline Professional Institution.
• Meeting the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of their Professional Institution.

Essential Skills

• Demonstrable experience working in roles where knowledge of analysis is a key attribute.
• Demonstrable experience working within a highly regulated and quality assured system in roles where professional engineering judgement is the key attribute.
• Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively to deliver successful projects and work packages.
• Demonstrable experience of mitigating technical risks and drives business improvements through innovation and research.
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of ANSYS, LS-DYNA, response spectrum analysis, SSI / SSSI, finite element analysis techniques and appropriate validation and verification techniques.
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of application of SL Engineering Standards for seismic analysis and design.
• Considerable knowledge of engineering relating to nuclear structures including the ability to calculate elastic and inelastic demand on structures, systems and components in reinforced concrete and steel.
• Ability to perform and experience of producing Impact Assessments including R3 methods.
• Knowledge of SL plants and SEMS processes relevant to the Analysis area.
• Comprehensive and detailed understanding of legislation, regulations and standards relevant to Analysis.

Desirable Skills

• Demonstrable experience working on projects at Sellafield site.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience of resolving technical queries and challenges with Regulators.
• Good working knowledge of analysis tools, seismic analysis, and fault load scenario as appropriate to delivery of complex designs.
