About the role

The Technology Manager supports practical technology solutions and development of technical requirements which reduce the technology risks across the directorate or company, whilst ensuring they deliver operational benefits, customer requirements, meet regulatory and safety requirements and support strategic objectives.

The purpose is to accelerate the deployment and adoption of tools, standards, features and ethical practices to ensure Sellafield is at the forefront of developments and to drive improved efficiency in working practices, both on plant and in the office, to demonstrate achievements of Sellafield’s Aspirational targets and strategic objectives.

We are seeking someone with in-depth knowledge of cementitious materials and production supply, with experience working in the cement industry (or some exposure to it) – preferably within Technical for plant support, chemical analysis / laboratory and technical support. We would also consider candidates with hands-on experience of the construction or admixture industry.

Key responsibilities

The Technology Manager is accountable to the Technical Lead:
• Translate the technology vision, priorities and roadmap into actionable plans, projects and tasks, underpin the ongoing and future technological advancements, efficiencies and improvements.
• Oversee and coordinate the delivery of technology development & demonstration tasks within area of responsibility are delivered in a safe and efficient manner.
• Ensure that all tasks have a sponsor and end user and have aligned benefits.
• Ensure that the learning is identified, captured and appropriately documented to be shared, benefitting Sellafield Ltd and where appropriate the wider NDA estate.
• Be a role model and drive behaviours in line with NDA leadership standard and Sellafield manifesto, challenge the norm where appropriate, whilst ensuring safety and legal compliance.
• Ensure the wider cement community are continually developed through appropriate mentoring and training programmes to deliver best practice against site and role requirements.
• Ensure contracts and finances within area of responsibility are controlled.
• Develop and maintain relationships and communication with key stakeholders across and outside the organisation to ensure the effective delivery of technical activities collaboratively providing the interface between the technology providers.
• Support the effective technical governance arrangements that are established to enable timely and informed decisions.
• Maintain oversight and knowledge of:
• The scope, assumptions, constraints, key issues, key decisions.
• The upstream/downstream interdependencies from other areas of the Site.
• Risks and opportunities.
• Establish and maintain appropriate standards, systems and documentation.

Your Skills and Qualifications

• Technical degree ideally with a chemistry related subject (i.e. Materials, Chemistry, Process Engineering etc).
• In-depth knowledge of cementitious materials and production supply, with experience working in the cement industry.
• Performed and specified work packages / research for industrial or academic work.
• Appreciation of project delivery and task management skills and an ability to intelligently apply these to suit the context of technology development / deployment.
• Critical thinking and questioning attitude (Subject Matter Expert independence).
• Academic liaison and PhD / post doc supervision and interaction, proposal scrutiny and generation.
• Experience of working in an integrated team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable:
• Understanding of the nuclear industry, particularly with wastes and encapsulation processes
