Retrievals East River is one of the most strategically important areas providing a critical role to Sellafield Site through receiving, processing and storing a wide range of solid and slurry wastes which supports critical and high hazard risk reduction missions. We have a large number of operational facilities where we are extending their life for new and future missions, new capabilities being developed and brought on-line, over 50,000 waste packages currently in storage with 10,000s more to be received. The RER mission will last at least another 100 years which will require us to undertake a number of first of a kind operations and activities.

The RER Technical team provides technical underpinning and support to:-

• Ongoing safe storage of wastes in the Box Encapsulation Plant Product Store and Encapsulated Product Stores.
• Waste processing operations in Magnox Encapsulation Plant and Wastes Encapsulation Plant
• Support to new capability projects such as BEP, BTF and BEPPS 2.
• Technical underpinning for the processing and storage of a wide variety of wastes from across the Sellafield Site such as MSSS, AGR, decommissioning, fuel and THORP
• Preparation for new capability and operations through technology development and technical underpinning.

In addition to developing technical expertise, the role provides excellent opportunities to raise your profile within Sellafield Ltd. and develop specialist skills.

Principal Accountabilities

• Leading and delivery to product quality and disposability aspects and acceptability particularly for final products, but for interim products as necessary.
• Leading and delivery of the technical elements of the Learning Plans. Including the nature, quantity and behaviour of the waste and its interaction with Plant and Equipment including the Waste Containers; allowing the Technical Baselines to be validated, maintained or modified.
• Support to Operations and Plant & System Engineering in task delivery, information collection, interpretation, analysis and performance reporting.
• Liaison with Stream, Plant Technical Managers and/or Operations in supporting the development of future capabilities and plant/process improvements.
• Implementation of CM&I technology for future phases of solid waste management.
• Plant support in areas such as safeguards, inventory, non-conformance and consignment management, including representation at PQRCs.
• Support to Continuous Improvement Capability initiatives, plant and processes.
• Support investigation and resolution of emergent issues on plant
• Specialist assessment work which may include fuel management, cement & process, hydrogen management, reactive materials and inventory.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential Skills

• Demonstrated delivery of credible technical work at the appropriate grade.
• Relevant experience working with technical teams.
• Knowledge of waste storage and management, Relevant technical qualifications
• Must be numerate, articulate, and able to communicate well with Supply Chain and Stakeholders.
• Knowledge of the Sellafield Ltd business.
• Data collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of information.
• Writing of technical reports and papers for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work in an active area and achieve monitored worker status

Desirable Skills

• Experience working within an operations environment.
• Experience working with external stakeholders and regulators.
