Business Administration

24 month programme

What is a Business Administration Apprenticeship?

Business Administration Apprentices provide quality support to various departments and management teams across the Sellafield Ltd enterprise, within a variety of departments such as Group Business Services (Admin Services, Payroll, People Administration, Accounts Payable and Recruitment), Project Delivery Directorate (PDD), Stakeholder Communications, Document Control and Training – to name a few.

During the 2-year programme you will be provided with 2 x 6-month placements and a final 12-month placement. You may also sample additional opportunities dependant on emerging business needs.

Our Cumbria placements will be based either on the Sellafield site or at one of our offsite locations in Whitehaven or Workington. Our Warrington placements will be based in Hinton House at Risley.

What will I be doing?

Your role will include tasks such as diary management, arranging meetings and events, taking meeting notes and providing general admin support to the department you are supporting. You may also work as a secretary to one of the senior managers of the company. Other tasks can include support to Document Control processes and HR related activities such as Payroll, Recruitment and processing of people related transactions in line with Company Terms and Conditions.

Your role will be desk based and you will have the opportunity to complete the Level 3 Standard in Business Administration whilst on the scheme, by attending college one day a month.

As well as acquiring administrative skills, your placements will provide opportunity to develop communication and interpersonal skills and become confident in dealing with a variety of stakeholders.

What do I need to consider?

Business Administration is available at both locations (Sellafield, Cumbria & Risley, Warrington).

The role is suitable for individuals with a strong interest in secretarial and administrative work and will require you to have strong organisational skills. You will be liaising with different colleagues from across the organisation and therefore, will require you to have good communication skills. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about the different departments within Sellafield Ltd in a supportive environment. However, you need to be open to receive feedback and quickly learn new things as change can happen quite frequently at Sellafield Ltd.

Within the last six months of your apprenticeship you will undertake a knowledge, skills and behaviours assessment by an independently appointed organisation, where you will be expected to clearly demonstrate your ability to meet the Apprenticeship.

Where will my training be delivered?

When your training commences you will be based either on the Sellafield site or in one of its offices in Whitehaven or Workington. Risley Business Administration apprentices will be based at Hinton House, Warrington. Your college studies will be carried out by a local training provider.
