Sellafield Ltd spends over £2billion per annum and the Finance department has the responsibility for ensuring that Sellafield maintains value for money and sound cost control principles while complying with statutory requirements and maintaining appropriate governance. The team also provides analysis and insight to aid decision making, supporting the delivery of work in line with schedule and funding.

The Financial Control teams are aligned to Operating Units across the business and provide strategic advice and support to these teams, working with them on budgets and forecasts, business cases, financial assurance, efficiencies and spend.

Typical roles and responsibilities:

Whilst on the programme graduates undertake 6 month placements in various finance teams, giving them exposure to all aspects of finance within Sellafield Ltd and an understanding of Sellafield’s business and the operating and regulatory environment within which the organisation works. Finance graduates are given responsibilities such as preparing key reports, leading and attending meetings with business teams, analysing financial data, compiling and processing financial data for period-end among a range of other things.  This gives graduates the opportunity to develop their finance and business skills whilst on the programme.

Progression possibilities:

Within the Finance profession at Sellafield Ltd there is a lot of scope for career progression. It is expected that graduates will study for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) professional qualification, which is widely recognised externally and a transferable skill.  Sellafield Ltd is accredited to CIMA, and the CIMA qualification will enable the individual to progress through the Finance career path, for example, progressing to become the Financial Controller supporting and working collaboratively with a significant Value Stream and/or Operating Unit at Sellafield.
